Matters
- Department of Financial Services of Florida v. Deloitte. DFS sued Deloitte in state court in Tallahassee for $1 billion growing out of losses by insurance companies audited by Deloitte. The case was tried to a jury for five weeks. The jury returned a defense verdict.
- Insurance Commissioner of Kentucky v. Errnst && Young. Plaintiff sued EY for $375 million in Frankfort, Kentucky, for losses arising from AIK, which was audited by EY. After two months of trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of EY.
- Aegis Ins Company v. State Farm. A class of insurance companies sued State Farm and others for breach of fiduciary duty concerning reinsurance carried by the Mississippi Wind Pool. Hurricane Katrina cost more than the Wind Pool’s coverage and other insurance companies were assessed. After 13 trial days in the Southern District of Mississippi, the Court directed a verdict in favor of State Farm.
- Represented 17 veterans challenging as unconstitutional the seven year delay by the Veterans Administration in deciding appeals from the denial of veterans’ benefits.
- Represented Plaintiff homeowners in suit against builder and building inspector. Two week trial. Plaintiff’s verdict finding defendants committed fraud.
- Al Adahi v. Obama. We tried and won a habeas corpus case for this Guantanamo detainee in a five-day non-jury proceeding. The Court ordered his release, but the Court of Appeals overturned all such cases on appeal.
